Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

You USED to be able to disable (or remap) the button on the side. They blocked people from doing that 6 months ago. So now I'm locked in where previously I could opt out.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

I'm never gonna buy another Samsung again. The inability to uninstall or disable Bixby, or even to disable the button is a terrible terrible design feature. This is the kind of integrated crap I expect Apple to pull - I wouldn't even expect this level of nonsense from Microsoft. Next phone is going ...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

On bin night, your bin would presumably be on the side of the road rather than hidden in your driveway. And that night would be the point in time where the bin is fullest and thus of the most value to steal. So in theory the laziness factor and seclusion that normally protect the bin wouldn't apply.

I got a Ryzen 1600 20 months ago, and I'm expecting it to be good enough for the next 5 years. Runs amazingly well right now.

And the newest thing often comes with an extra cost that the product won't live up to.

Though if it were me, I'd wait tbh. I'm a sucker like that.

No-one would have predicted that the umpires were on Essendon's payroll. Seriously, if that went the other way, Eddie McGuire would be up in arms about how the league favours the non-Victorian clubs...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

When I used to live in regional towns (not calling them cities no matter what they think of themselves), I never used to use public transport to get around. It was either a bike or walking. I think good public transport infrastructure is vital to cities, but I doubt that most towns have a dense enou...

I've set myself up here so that the bus is easily the most convenient option for getting to work. Quicker, cheaper, and way less hassle than driving.

Android is quite simple tbh. Had Android phones for over a decade now and I've never had to do anything complicated on them to get them to work.

Currently watching Chernobyl, and all I can say is wow. This is an amazing show; so tragic and farcical. It's gut-wrenching to watch.

Yeah. That Liberal ad in Chinese that looked like it's AEC had "authorised by the Liberal party" is definitely not in the spirit of democracy even if it's technically legal.

Re: Game of Thrones (Season 8) - SPOILERS

I know haters gonna hate, but I liked this season much more than seasons 5, 6 or 7. Dialogue was better, action was more epic, and it sought to tell the story in more than just plot points. I think, too, it put into perspective just how difficult it is for GRRM to make all the plot points fit togeth...

Re: Game of Thrones (Season 8) - SPOILERS

I thought The Wire-esque montage was a good way to end the show. And I was happy they put in the scene where Brienne the Beautiful had to write Jaime's time in the Kingsguard - that felt the best possible homage to the books. I also didn't expect the knifing to happen so quickly - I would have felt ...

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

One of the things that baffled me about the campaign against Labor on tax was that Labor was proposing to cut taxes, and they would have been more substantial cuts for more people. Yet instead of campaigning on that, it let the LNP just relentlessly claim Labor was going to tax us out of existence, ...

Re: Game of Thrones (Season 8) - SPOILERS

Since they've gone off book, they have the outline GRRM gave them on where the story goes, so they've been connecting plot points for 2 and a half seasons now. I can't be too harsh on them for that reason. It's Martin's story, not theirs, and Martin is taking forever because of how difficult it has ...

Re: Game of Thrones (Season 8) - SPOILERS

One final note, reading on the internet about how surprised everyone seems to be that Daenerys went super crazy. This was a person who grew up being told Westeros was her family's birthright, and that she would be welcomed with open arms when the Usurper was overthrown. The stark contrast she had s...
