Re: Finally! It's new build time... sort of.

Aetherone, I don't like your approach to this at all. Fair enough. I'll try again without too much shitstirring. Scroll & ignore or read & ask. Given the 970 slice, the remaining budget is tight with very little wiggle room from Mak's suggestions. I'd go an Asus board, but only because I like their...

Re: Ipad or Surface 3

The only real downside is it makes you want a proper tablet & pen for photoshopping on the big rig :D

Re: Ipad or Surface 3

does anyone have the surface 3(not the pro)? is it capable of playing any type of game? sorta leaning this way so i can use it as a quasi graphics tablet as well Its hard to suggest as they're really quite different classes of device. The Surface3 is a small but proper computer in tablet format. Th...

Re: Finally! It's new build time... sort of.

$500 is 25% of the total budget we've been given to work with If the machine is being used to generate taxable income, its also immediately tax-writeoffable. The budget may or may not be more flexible when considering additional earning power arising from not waiting around. So, Kel uses Adobe: InD...

Re: Finally! It's new build time... sort of.

But the 580's are free That may be, is the heat (and thus cooling) and electricity to run them free too? Why waste 100w doing something that 5w can do just as well? and 2 of them are almost overkill for the task of graphic design. Unless the application is actually doing 3D rendering in GPU (or Mrs...

Re: Finally! It's new build time... sort of.

It's true that they deliver excellent performance, but they are also much more expensive; prohibitively so I haven't looked at the pricing since the release of socket 1151 - at that time the x99 was marginally more expensive and far better value for the performance. Looks like the chips are still b...

Re: Finally! It's new build time... sort of.

I am going to give her one or both of my 580's Nasty  By modern standards, 580's are hot, extremely power hungry and not terribly fast for the watts or heat. They also have less than stellar idle wattage too. Be nice to her and jump forward a few generations. or SSD if they're now stable enoug...

Does anyone still play Natural Selection? (well, NS2 now)

Had so many epic nights with Hart and boys resource spamming the everloving shite out of poor marines in the original. So much so, I pre-ordered NS2 to get the funky black armour and put it away until after PhD thesis was written. Cut back a few years and several pesky distractions later and ...? An...
