Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

Back from Africa! I didn't get eaten by any lions or anything. Just going to share one picture, cos everyone's seen all the things all of the times. I took it by putting my phone up to the eye piece of a pair of binoculars - genius tour guide suggestion.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

Just reading about East Africa during world war one and the fighting there (because thanks for consuming my day Wikipedia). The Germans lost 9000 troops and 7000 native porters. The British lost 11000 troops and NINETY FIVE THOUSAND porters.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

I joined (and am still a member of for some reason) one of our local brigades, thought it looked really cool and wanted to get involved in the community and make some friends. Wasn't that a disaster, the place was drama central with little cliques left right and centre. Sounds like your attempt wil...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

Went along to my local rural fire brigade yesterday to look into maybe joining. Turns out I already know a bunch of people in it and instead of sending me away with just an application form they kitted me out with all the gear (kit bag, boots, helmet, clothes, etc) and expect me to show up to the ne...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

After tomorrow I'll be all booked in for my Kenya trip, leaving 27th Nov. It's going to be close to 24 hours of travel to get from where I'm sitting to Nairobi. Never done anything like that before. Going to be interesting. Anyone got any travel tips? Oh and money tips. I have no idea what to do abo...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

Has everybody been spotting birds for bird week? https://aussiebirdcount.org.au/ I thought it was something different to do for 20min. I enjoyed it, actually really looking and counting what was getting around my place. I also finally found out why there's a Kingfisher hanging out when there's absol...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

Lost a few trees around town, but just a lot of stuff fairly well stripped and a couple big branches around the house. Not so bad.

So tonight was interesting. Some of those wind speeds are not like the others. I assume it maxes out at 120 just looking at it.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

My impression is if you were an American you'd be vehemently for one side or the other, have some fairly biased views and then completely fail to ever go and vote to do anything about it.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

Just watching Scott Morrison talk about the Wentworth by-election result/loss for them - essentially Liberals are strong, Labor and Bill Shorten would be terrible for the country, we're the best. I'm not sure doubling down on your convictions after a humiliating defeat is the correct path forward th...

Re: What are you watching?

Ant Man and the Wasp. Actually really liked it. It's been a long time since I enjoyed a Marvel movie all the way from start to finish, I didn't think they had it in them to make a movie like that anymore.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

Got my feedback from my lecturer finally. I ended up stacking 3 emails on top of each-other over the weekend as I thought of more things I wanted answers to.
Maybe not the best impression to be making on the person who has yet to grade my final exam. But fuck it. I didn't sign up not to learn.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

Stupid, frustrating lecturer. I asked for more feedback on my assignment and he copy paste's some of what was already written and basically says "read this bit". I already read that bit. Stop trying to avoid actually teaching and do your damn job.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

Buy a decent set of 8x Binoculars, when it comes to optics you get what you pay for especially at dawn and dusk.. Not going to lie Mugsy, I'd prefer the rifle lol, no photo I can take of any animal is better than someone else has taken I did a bit of work with some ecologists a while back. Thought ...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

My brother has a .44 magnum rifle he uses for pigging. Not the best range, but a big hunk of lead and pretty great stopping power. I'll just take that on the plane with me. Saving money left and right!

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

If you do plan on safari and, assuming you want advice on camera gear, let me know. All too happy to provide advice to suit any budget. You know, I'm not sure I'm going to go that route. I was thinking about just asking other people if they'd share their pictures. They always seem to be a group thi...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

Was thinking about a trip to Kenya at the end of the year/start of next. Enquired at my GP about shots I'd need. $600-800 and 2 months lead time. Jesus.

Re: What are you watching?

Third season of Lethal Weapon has started (With Seann William Scott instead of the guy who played Riggs). I thought the first episode was pretty good.

Re: What are you watching?

Finished with BoJack. It turned out fine in the end. I enjoyed it, no real complaints.

Started on Ozark season 2. Watch 5 or 6 episodes and stopped. It's gotten too formulaic. The plot takes one step forward, then two steps back. Every single time. I got tired of it.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

NBN (fttn) available at my house now! Apparently. Blah. I really can't be arsed going through the process of working all that stuff out. I think I'll just stick with ADSL for a couple months, see if any decent deals or information filters through in the meantime.

Re: What are you watching?

Season 5 of BoJack Horseman as well. I don't actually remember the past seasons so well. But I'm pretty sure they didn't focus on the supporting characters nearly as much as they have this season. Only half way through at the moment, but it feels like a "We've run out of ideas with what to do with B...

Re: What are you watching?

The Jack Ryan series on Amazon goes alright. Only a couple episodes in, but my goodness is it some high budget stuff. Fingers crossed the story lives up to the money they seem to have spent on it.
