Re: Game of Thrones (Season 8) - SPOILERS

One final note, reading on the internet about how surprised everyone seems to be that Daenerys went super crazy. This was a person who grew up being told Westeros was her family's birthright, and that she would be welcomed with open arms when the Usurper was overthrown. The stark contrast she had s...

Re: Game of Thrones (Season 8) - SPOILERS

Main thing that annoyed me was them changing the prophecy. Damnit, Cersei was meant to be choked to death by her younger brother! Apart from that, I really liked the episode. Arya in the streets trying not to get caught up in the chaos and being otherwise useless was quite refreshing. The destructi...

the convenience store charged me $5.
I suppose you're paying for the convenience of it. Unless there's a Woolworths next door, in which case it's baffling why anyone would use the convenience store.

Australian Progressives look like the kind of minor party I like to preferences first out of principle (dislike voting for major parties - it's the luxury we have with preferential voting, where we can signal to a minor party that closely represents our views then direct preferences to the lesser of...

Do you know anything about the independent running in Canberra? Can't tell if he's a joke candidate like Palmer or serious like all the arseholes who aren't Palmer.

Re: What are you reading?

I just finished reading How Music Works by David Byrne, which really went into a lot more depth about the music industry than I was expecting. It has inspired me to pick up the guitar again, though, so that's good. Also reading Gastrophysics by Charles Spence. It's all about the science of eating, a...

I'm gonna vote on election day this year. I haven't done that since 2007 - at least for federal elections. Might even get a democracy sausage if there's one available.

Re: Game of Thrones (Season 8) - SPOILERS

After all the fuss about dragons, and half an episode of Winterfell banter, the dragon being felled so casually seemed really rushed. If we take this as stemming from GRR's outline, then the stuff in A Feast for Crows about the Dragon-horn has come to fruition.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

I'd imagine the answer is that if you let the users do what they want, some users would break it bad and Apple would have a harder time fixing it. Locking it down is kind of smart for particular kinds of users (the ones with the illusion of competence), though it's frustrating for the rest of us. Ba...

Re: Game of Thrones (Season 8) - SPOILERS

You'd think that the Dothraki would be useless in anything other than a riding assault - at least for that battle.

Only consolation in it all was that it was a great sequence visually and setting the tone for how hopeless the task was.

Re: Game of Thrones (Season 8) - SPOILERS

I'm just looking forward to the final part of the prophecy being fulfilled. The only question is whether it'll be Jaime or Tyrion that fulfills it. I'm also hoping that something happens with the Robert's bastards storyline. Such a big deal was made kid that in the first couple of books, yet it seem...

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

A $60,000 car that physically cannot get me from my home to my parents home even if I did want to fanny about having massive fucking breaks for charging IS a shitty product. I fail to see how that is 'nonsense' just because it doesn't align with greenie views. From a practical standpoint, it is ove...

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

Unless you're in a huge city and never go anywhere then electric is just a shitty product at present, and us investing in it won't change that in the slightest. I disagree with that for two reasons. 1) There's a lot of investment being put into electric worldwide, and the uptake of global electric ...

Re: Show us your latest purchase - Autumn 2019

It depends on the wine, really. Some wines are made to be drank young, and ageing isn't going to do anything good for them (does the opposite), and shit wine won't necessarily improve with age either. So it's got to be the right kinds of wines - usually wines that are high in tannins or acid benefit...

Re: Game of Thrones (Season 8) - SPOILERS

All through the episode, I kept thinking back to the folklore of the books. When this is over, I think I'll go back and re-read them. Or at least Fire and Blood. It's great that the show takes the effort to try to contextualize what's at stake for the characters. Those moments are what makes the bat...

Re: Show us your latest purchase - Autumn 2019

I can explain from my experience how we did it. At first, we bought some wines to drink and some wines to put away. Over time we would drink the wines that are meant to be drank young or that have appropriately aged, all the while replenishing and adding to the cellar. So we've got wines in our cell...

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

So from a policy perspective, do you see anything changing in 10 years time? Like, if there were more charging stations and fast charging cars could be done in minutes rather than hours, do you think anyone in regional centres might see it as viable? Or do you think it's an utter waste of time to ev...

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

There are chargers that do more than 7kw now, so why should we think that's the metric we should judge electric car performance by?
