Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

Yeah, I got way more social conservative than my views are generally. I was pretty disappointed with the way some if the questions were worded - especially when it came to immigration and trans rights - that general conclusions could be drawn from them. Or even that the views the Greens have is the ...

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

Personally I think Turnbull and Gillard were both good leaders - both knew how to use the system to get things done for what they thought was the good of the country even if it didn't make them popular. Beyond that, other leaders have had some good moments. Howard with the gun control and East Timor...

Wasn't Sam's original path to the wall being told that he'd be hunted down by his father (or words to that effect?) if he didn't take the black? If I were him, I'd be relieved.

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

For me, it's pure demagoguery. These politicians know what they're doing and they're smart enough to know better. Liberals for a while now have been trying to denounce Labor at every turn as incompetent and will implement dangerous policies. Remember a few weeks ago when one minister was asked about...

Re: Federal Election May 18, 2019!

The one that's really sitting me at the moment is calling closing the loophole to hand corporate tax paid to shareholders who pay no tax a "retirement tax". I'm also perplexed that the politicians who take "50% of new cars sold in 2030 will be electric" to either mean that 50% of all cars on the roa...

I don't know, but I wish he'd bring back cult movies. Viceland would be the perfect channel for it.

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion coming to Netflix

My introduction to anime was Akira playing dubbed on SBS. Good times... The general problem I've found is the Japanese intonation of speech sounds horrible when copied by English voice actors. So I prefer to hear the pronunciation in Japanese while reading the subs. Perhaps there are some good dubs ...

If you haven't seen it, check out Plebs on iView. Or if you're in for a action / black comedy, there's Killing Eve.

Re: Altered Carbon

Agree with Sathias - it's visually stunning. What I liked about the series was that the story was dense enough to fill out a season. It felt like there's was very little filler, which is something that many series are guilty of in order to justify the episode count. It also used action quite sparing...

Personally I think the older one is, the more impressive it is. Having the confidence to be a dork in public is quite an achievement, as most of us know from an early age that such displays are to be scorned and ridiculed.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts

Did an online coding interview today. First time I've done something like that. It's weird because the kinds of questions they ask are like doing a coding exam at university - more to show off coding skills than anything related to my 12 years of employment. Guess I'll find out if my results* are go...

Re: Alien 5

I think the problem of Prometheus and Alien Covenant was that people were expecting them to be alien films. And as much as I enjoyed those films, their weakest moments were when they did the alien-like sequences. But I guess that's part of the problem with trying to tap into that fictional world - t...

Watched the first episode of You, and couldn't stand the narration.

I also started Sex Education, and I've enjoyed that so far. Gillian Anderson makes every show better!
