Bah! Missed my advanced screening tonight... mum's arvo appointment and subsequent work that followed from it ate into the evening.

Such an average movie... Left the cinema unsure if I hated it or was just so ambivalent I had no emotion about it what-so-ever. At least it wasn't a movie about an android pressing buttons. Mildly interesting to get some more alien info but I'd rather have just been told than sitting through covenant.

Had far lower expectations and still felt let down... I'd say worse, personally.

I was worried that'd happen. Will wait for Netflix then...

I saw this movie last night and totally agree. Visually, the movie looked really good but there just wasn't a lot of substance to the script.

I'm not sure if I'm going to spoil anything here but I'll be safe
The "twist" was telegraphed about 30min from the end of the movie, so even that was a non-event.
I think Ridley Scott has flogged this franchise enough. :hand:

Just watched this tonight and... yeah, it's kinda bland. Alien was a great sci fi horror flick. Throwing all this philosophical mumbo jumbo in with what is essentially a retread of Alien it is pretty meh.

Finally saw this last night. A few thoughts about it:

- it was a reminder of the horror of the original Alien, and why the alien makes for such compelling viewing.
- why did they stock these interstellar ships with clueless hothead morons who end up causing shit through their careless actions?
- the story of the ancients from the first two films who seeded everything has had about 12 seconds screen time between the two films. Now there's a story to be told.
- David was an amazing vehicle for philosophical discussion about the nature of man. It almost redeemed the idiocy of the actual people.
- I really hope they finish this trilogy because it's set up so well for it.

Meh I enjoyed it, people bitch to much about anything. It's still better than pretty much all the scifi that came out this year.

I should add that I definitely enjoyed it. There's plenty good to offset the less good elements of the film.

Each to their own I guess.

The stupid humans and shoehorning in the Alien is what I have issues with the most and unfortunately, for me it sticks quite heavily. Don't get me wrong, when I want to see humans do stupid things, I'll go watch a Transformers movie (and I did a few weekends ago). I feel Covenant couldn't decide what it really wanted to be... was it an action film? horror movie? philosophical exploration of what it meant to be human? I know, it was all of the above but it did some genres poorly and others better so you're left wanting more of the better stuff and disappointed when the so-so stuff was going on.

Fassbender really did carry the weight of the film here and had his performance at portraying both roles not been so good, I think I would have switched off halfway through.

That honour goes to Blade Runner 2049 for me. Did a much better job of exploring what it means to be human than what Covenant did IMHO an despite the 2hr 40min run time, it kept my interest the entire way through.

I think the only bit that really bugged me was taking off the helmets on a foreign planet, which seems to be a big no-no in Planetary Exploration 101. But I suppose they needed some poor suckers to breathe in some nasty spores for plot advancement. Either way, the film was ok.

Nah, just differing opinions.

One mans treasure is another mans trash and vice versa.

Whereas I loved the music in Bladerunner and my girl hated it.

Impossible to please everyone with everything.
