Even when I've been on tank water, shower beers are great, I just get more efficient at drinking them :P

If I lived closer to the ocean I would get and maintain a diving certification and buy the equipment, but when you live 5 hours drive each way from the ocean it just becomes a massive pain in the ass

my nose has never been the same after the last op. at least i can breathe through it now though.

ive still got my near-brand-new BCD jacket which is worth around $800.i should sell it.

I love diving, but it shits me to tears that I can't actually do anything more than the introductory dives because I'm not certified - if I really wanted to I could go to the effort but then you need to dive several times a year to maintain it

Ever thought of moving to somewhere that would allow you to live the lifestyle?

I've been seriously tempted to move to Finland to take up cross-country skiing (wife is Finnish), but work is keeping me in Canberra.

Yeah, but I like it here.. nice climate, nice city, family is nearby.. if I was so into it that I wanted to go diving every weekend then yeah sure

Fair enough. I'm always curious to know how far people are willing to go to make their life fit their desired lifestyle, rather than the other way around.

I think it's much easier to do that if you have the available funds and a bit less commitment - for us, we both have stable jobs that we enjoy, a mortgage, family nearby and our lives are fairly well established here.

Even if you did love a particular hobby a lot, that's a lot to give up - the decision to move would be easier if we weren't content with the life we have built here.

I was raised to not do things I wouldn't want done to myself. And that's why anal sex is off the agenda.

But thanks to all you guys and your advice and especially Mini for a few PMs, that was an education and with any luck I'll do a lot better on future ones.
So, a bit late to be of any use to you, but it may help others - I've sat on more than a few panels
STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) or EPO (Experience, Process, Outcome) is the way to go

What the situation was
What YOU did
What the result was

Wishy washy things like "I was part of a team that implemented next gen whatever" are not as powerful as "I researched available options, built the system, documented and released it. The new system was well received by users. Savings in the first year were $XXK"

A joke won't kill the app - as long as it doesn't get in the way of what the people reading are looking for

We can even (kind of) ignore poor grammar, or spelling - as long as we can get the information we need - obviously we prefer easy reading that gets the message across quickly and clearly - 'cos sometimes there are literally hundreds of applications to get through

A good friend's five year old daughter was sexually assaulted in a toilet block at the local park on Friday. Her daughter was only out of her sight for 90 seconds at most. That's how quick it was, and it was only that my friend was shouting out her daughter's name that the perpetrator let the little girl go, so he could make a run for it.

Reading some of the comments on the news articles on social media has done my head in. People are so thoughtless when they post, no one will ever be tougher on her than she is being on her self right now but I still hate the thought of her reading those comments.

There are no words, my heart just aches.

I mean why not? Nobody ever faked a molestation/rape case to get back at someone for some tiny slight did they?

Child free trip to Perth tomorrow, they don't have room for us in the lodge which is a pain because my partners Aunty lives about an hour drive from the hospital, we'll get there for her treatment on Wednesday and leave the car parked there while we either bus to the city centre or hang out around the area because that evening we are meeting my cousins for dinner at a restaurant just down the road from the hospital then going to see a movie.
