So apparently an MRI costs $260-$340 and isn't covered by Medicare.

What the fuck Medicare?

Learning the basics of Excel was one of the most important things I've done for my job recently. I'm still pretty much a gumby with it, but it's just so powerful for quickly sorting and analysing large data sets.

Seems to me like it's pretty hard to find a job that doesn't benefit from knowing Excel. Unless you want to drive a truck or work in the service industry or something like that anyway.

I'm under the impression that a lot of large corporations pay licensing or similar fees to their overseas parent companies in order to avoid some (all?) Australian taxes. Do they pay GST on these licensing fees?

I work for a company that does a lot of licensing, and we do have some customers that procure licenses through their international arms rather than via Australia. I don't think they would pay GST on those licenses, but I see where you are going with that question with regards to the new GST import changes.

I just figure it would be a good way of recouping some of the avoided tax. Would have thought that since the license would be over the current GST threshold ($1000 IIRC) anyway they probably should be. Unless of course they just buy lots of $999 licenses.

Well even more so when they make the planned changes to remove the $1000 threshold

I wonder how they're going to enforce it, package arrives, they check the details, they hold the package while they send an invoice to Joe Blogs, Joe pays the invoice, 7-10 weeks later he gets his package?

Yeah, eBay are saying rather than pay to change their systems, they are just going to ban Aussies from buying from international sellers.

Yep, we all get to look forward to the Harvey tax in a couple of months if we don't want to be price gouged.

Bit of an extra boon for Amazon becoming local then.

Suspect a bit of that will be going on, especially from Hong Kong. It will be tax evasion at that point though, so people will want to be careful with that. A sudden influx of gifts to one address might raise some flags. :D

Suspect some of the grey market importers will be happy to see this as well, will further cut the price gap between them and importing for yourself.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Steam. Valve already don't like the ACCC/Aussie Government, so if they have to go through the cost of collecting GST, we might find we have to start paying GST on games as well as the Australia tax getting even bigger.

Gerry/JB/EB win again!

Why do we not have a Steam store in AUD?
New Zealand has one in their currency for gods sake...

Pretty sure they were trying to dodge the local consumer laws, which makes even less sense when there is regional games restriction and price markups.

I just did a Krav Maga class, talk about not being physically ready.. had to have a rest break.. during the warmup, along with about 30 odd other rest breaks here and there, fell over and busted my knee on the court and got punched in the face by a woman
