After seeing the way the insurance industry has sold junk climbs and denied liability over and over during natural disasters, I totally get why people wouldn't want insurance. After all, insurance companies need to profit to stay in business, so minimizing the payout and liability makes sense, and it's why it can nature sense for the government to step in and rebuild as they have a very different skin in the game.

Everyone paying slightly higher taxes or having emergency relief funds might make is all better off them mandating insurance. It's effectively the same thing, anyway, because it's paying to someone as a precaution for the unforeseeable.

So uh, not only is my mother apparently anti vaccinations, she legitimately believes that the flu vaccine kills people in nursing homes.

What the fuck.

Yeah it was something else. Big contrasts.
Going from this near Mt Isa
Hmmm, so it's still pretty green out there. The few months leading up to my trip, they had a lot of rain out Mt Isa/Cloncurry way. I'm sure it's good for the locals but I wanted to see a non-vegetated, red barren wasteland to make me feel like I was driving on Mars. That was the only disappointing bit for me.

My Director and Manager told me to swing into Mary Kathleen, the old town with a Uranium mine. That land was being used for grazing from memory and the road was shot up. We reckon within a year or two, you'd have trouble driving through there. At the time, the foundations for the buildings in the town center could still be seen on google maps. I can't seem to find them on google maps anymore. Was an eerie experience to standing in almost complete silence at a place that was once populated and full of activity.

One of these days I'm gonna have to take that drive again.

We were in southern QLD last year and it was SUPER green and beautiful.. get into NSW, everything is dead.

We're at less than half our annual rainfall up to July, it's terrible.

Think of it this way, at least you're not trying to recapture your youth by buying a Ferrari and getting a young mistress. On that thought, the skateboard probably looks fantastic now!! Image

Took my daughter ice skating in the pop up rink in the middle of town last night
Garema Place for those who know the area
For those who don't - a large pedestrian mall with cafes, restaurants, bars

Woman standing talking to her friends while deliberately ignoring her (leashed) mongrel dog taking a dump
I walked up and said "somebody needs to clean that up"
"Why don't you since you're so concerned about it"
"It's a $75 fine"
"Oh, and are you going to fine me"
"No, but I'll happily report you Dorothy"
The look on her face when she realised she had a name badge on with her full name and a contact organisation...

Woolies have sent me an email offering 12000 points if I spend $100 every week for the next 4 weeks.

Coles have sent me an email offering 10000 points if I spend $50 every week for the next 4 weeks. Coles will also give me an extra 3000 points for spending $50 in any one shop starting tomorrow till Tues.

I wonder which super market I will be doing my shopping at this week?... and the following 3 weeks?

I feel like Chili Con Carne again.

Yeah, I dropped it in this morning to be fixed. Here's hoping it's fixed properly.

Job application writing this weekend. My higher duties expired at the end of last month and they couldn't extend as the recruitment process last time was just internal plus uncertainty around staff movements. Just hoping I have picked up more experience in the past few months to make my application stronger than the competition.

Useless, unskilled, confused shut-in at 18.
Driver's license at 19.
GED (equivalent to a high school diploma for people who did not attend or finish high school), growing a f'ing spine, first real job, and overcoming horrid amounts of anxiety at 20.
Owning my own car, actual healthy relationship, and now about to attend college at 21.

Life is looking up.

Good on you!

Those first few years after high school were definitely some of my hardest. Trying to figure out where to go in life and then how to get there wasn't easy. Sure, I was going to Uni but I had no idea what I wanted to do so all I was doing was racking up a HECS debt for two degrees, of which I still only use half of one at best. I didn't figure out properly where I wanted life to go until my mid 20s so I think you're doing just fine :-)

Oh, and this always reminds me not to give up...

Internet down on the day I planned to do a bunch of banking and bills oriented stuff including finding cheaper car insurance since mine has just doubled.
