Funny thing is that it's not a bad idea in theory - especially for people who have moved around or need to visit multiple doctors for whatever reason. If they addressed the privacy concerns and limited access to where it's consensual, it should be a no-brainer to have one. Or at the very least, it should be what Medicare does as a matter of operation.

I checked mine recently and was disappointed because I have no medical history on there. Things like vaccination records, blood test results, eyesight results, medical procedures, etc. would all be really useful to know in terms of making informed choices about health decisions in the future. As it stands, all that info resides in the private files of a dozen or so practices and hospitals, and I have no clue about my medical history.

The fact that they do not have a process in place that tracks who has accessed your records and when, and whether or not you consented to it, is a major issue for me.

The marvel cinematic universe seems so harmless... until you rewatch the Oldboy remake...
and realise that Nick Fury had imprisoned Thanos who broke out and tortured Nick Fury, killed Mantis and fucked Scarlet Witch.

Coles are offering me 10k points over 4 weeks of spending again but the weekly spend has gone up from $50 to $60. I think I might sit this one out and start using some of the 46k points I've accumulated.

You guys are always talking about points, but what the hell do you even do with them?

It's cash in an abstract form that you can use with them instead of real money.

Every time you shop, you can trade 2,000 points for $10 off. Alternately you can cash out a nominal figure and use that like a gift card to pay with.

I think for every 2000 points you can convert them to $10 in 'flybuys dollars' and then use your flybuys card to pay for your groceries and coles and shit like that... so if my calcs are correct, Mugsy could convert his points to flybuys dollars and have $230 to spend.

No different really to Everyday Rewards with Woolies, every so often when I shop it'll pop up and tell me I'm entitled to either $10 or $20 off our shop due to my points balance and asks if I'd like to redeem it.

Yeah, both Coles and Woolies work off 2000 points = $10 off a shop. You need to spend over $10 off course to get the pop up... which I didn't get the other day :-(

Those who follow the recent purchases thread will know we bought a rusty, grubby old bourbon barrel earlier this week:

We've just spent the most part of the weekend refurbishing her, and here she is:

Pretty stoked with how it turned out... now I just need to source some more suitable chairs.

Nice!

Wills these more suitable chairs be smaller sized kegs?

I'd get two wooden rocking chairs myself though that'll say the wrong thing about the age of the people in your house.

Two contracting firms contacted me to go for the same role. I can only go with one so I asked which one has the lowest overhead. One rang me up and got shitty with me about asking, trying every rhetorical trick in the book to avoid disclosing how much they'll make off my labour. This industry sucks, and I'm sick of dealing with the parasites who's only goal is to sign me up without me knowing what I'm signing up for.

Who cares as long as the work is tolerable and you're making good money?

Two things:
1. Part of what I can differentiate myself on when I apply for jobs is price. When I put a figure that ensures I'm competitive, then a large fee on top of that may nullify the competitive gain I get by setting my price.
2. They do next to nothing on a weekly basis, and some take up to 20% (I've heard even higher) as a premium for that. I'm not working to make other people wealthy, especially when it means a huge cut for doing little more than a search on Seek and a bit of paperwork.

So at this stage, when companies are looking for me to sign along the dotted line giving them exclusive representation, all I have to choose between is how I think the company will treat me. There are plenty of dodgy companies who tend to exploit workers (I've been burned before, and I've seen others burned too), so transparency matters to me as it's the only way I have any say in who I work through.

Ah it sounds a bit more complicated than just do X work for Y pay

Yeah, it's a weird arrangement. The government can't hire contractors directly anymore; they can only use approved companies for them. So the contracting firms are necessary middlemen between the government and the people doing the work. And in that there are some companies who operate by keeping their margins down, and others that operate by getting people to sign up and impose their conditions on them after. So there's an industry of people whose job it is to hit the phones whenever a new job is available to sign people up.

I once had one of those parasites demand that I let him know who stole me from him because he was the 10th person to call me for a job that came out, a demand I found especially odd as I have never heard from that person before do I don't know how on his head he "owned" me. But I get that's the competitive nature of the sales environment where everyone works on commission.
