Don’t buy Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare from the Windows 10 Store

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and the remastered Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare have both run afoul of the walled-garden approach to video games in a new and rather puzzling way.

Holy shit this is amazing. Forget offering better prices or features or anything over Steam, just fuck your users until you create enough of a divide that Steam becomes inconvenient for them. Bad play Microsoft, I hope this is reversed soon.

Seems this is down to Activision:
Update #1: A source familiar to the matter recently informed us that the decision to segregate Windows 10 Store and Win32 PC platform players is entirely on Activision. There is nothing about the UWP toolset that prevents cross-play functionality, as seen with CD Projekt RED's upcoming GWENT card game.

Update #2: We now have an official comment from a Microsoft spokesperson which reads as follows.

"We support cross-play between devices and platforms for partners who want to enable it."

Somewhere out there is a group of project managers, who are supposed to know the gaming industry, got paid thinking this was a good idea :/

It was always ultimately on Activision since they could have chosen not to release on the Windows 10 Store at all. :)
