Well folks - if you were hoping for a cheap entry into the world of virtual reality, you're about to be disappointed. Some quick math for everyone.

$781 is total cost including shipping to Australia Breakdown below:

Code: Select all

customs_fee: {currency: "USD", formatted: "$0.00"}
customs_fee_tax: {currency: "USD", formatted: "$0.00"}
shipping_handling_fee: {currency: "USD", formatted: "$120.00"}
shipping_handling_fee_tax: {currency: "USD", formatted: "$12.00"}
tax: {currency: "USD", formatted: "$59.00"}
total: {currency: "USD", formatted: "$781.00"}
Oculus on Twitter confirmed AU is getting charged in USD, so

781.00 USD = 1,104.22 AUD

According to xe.com current exchange rates.

+ You'll have to pay import fees/taxes even though we already paid the "tax" to Oculus. So that's another $160 AUD ($50 processing fee and 10% tax)

So in total for Australians it's $1,260 AUD. No thanks.

The GST would only apply if the declared value was >$1000 - so shipping itself isn't included. Still too expensive at the moment though :(

Ah yes my bad, still makes it $1100 anyway.

The shipping is what completely screws it though, it shouldn't be $130 for shipping.

The shipping does seem steep, but if it does get shipped in a large( size vs weight) case then that may account for it. The photos I have seen of it appear to be the size of a small to medium pelican case

Regardless, it's shipping from Sydney, and I've shipped larger and heavier things for less than $80USD FROM the US, why is it costing $186 AUD to ship from sydney?

Insurance would be my guess, although yeah, >10% of the item's worth does seem steep.

I only paid $50 shipping for my DK1, why the hell has it gone up to $130, also I was ready to support them yet again but its just way to much for me to fork out (considering i dont have a job at the moment doesnt help).

Im spewing, I really wanted to play with it but I guess I (we) have to wait until the HTC Vive come out and get some competition which should bring the pricr down.
