Help me decide which game from Steam Sales?

Post by Kendrite » 23 Nov 2017, 19:40

Steam Autumn Sale is on and I can't choose between a few games. Please help me decide (note: I Know games are subject to taste and this is kind of just a fun way to help me decide - don't take it too seriously)!

All prices are USD.

What combination of games would you go for totaling my current Steam credit??? I'm getting a Steam Controller for Christmas so I don't know if that is something to take into account.

Steam credit ~$67.00

Games I want or am considering (wishlist):

Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea Ep 1 & 2: $20.00 - I enjoyed the Bioshock games and heard this DLC is good
Homeworld Remastered Collection: $10.00 - loved the original HW2 but never finished it
Deserts of Kharak $15.00 - purchased
House of the Dying Sun: $10.00 - purchased
Elite Dangerous: $13.50 - would I need the DLC for it to be good?
Total War Warhammer: $20.00
Valley: $6.00 - purchased
Doom: $15.00 - purchased
Firewatch: $8.00
Starpoint Gemini Warlords: $17.50 - not sure how I'd go with 4x games
Plus anything else you might suggest!!

Cheers!

Definitely get Doom. Best FPS this decade!

Homeworld is great but I believe it still has the AI problems of the first game.

I've currently got my eye on the PC version of Vanquish and River City Ransom Underground.

Tempted to get Cities Skylines as the base game is cheap but I want the DLC and the complete collection is still expensive... hoping there will be a Cities Skylines Humble Bundle in the future.

I love Elite, and would love someone to fly around with after Moose deserted me.
DLC adds to the game, but isn't required, especially when first starting out. It is more mid to end game content than early stuff. I think you need a bigger ship to use any of the stuff you can get.

Total War Warhammer is rad as fuck, however it does have a lot of DLC, and if that includes a race you want then that's annoying. The base game is AOK and has a shit load of things to do, but I understand DLC turns some people off.

Thirded or whatever on Doom, great game.

I'd probably say no to Homeworld, it has a pile of AI issues that make the campaign far more brutal than was intended originally

Went and bought Doom - will give it a try over the weekend (I say give it a try but I've played the Demo and know I'll love it).

Do you need a joystick for Elite or could I use the Steam Controller I'm getting for Christmas? Is it still fun without any sort of VR? If I did buy it can an experienced player actually have fun playing with a new player? What did you do to Moose???

I play Elite with a mouse and keyboard (I am weird), not sure on the Steam Controller, I might give that a try, I have one laying around.
I don't have VR, and still enjoy it, play it like it is Freelancer v2.
And I just restarted my game because I didn't like how my old game was going, so yep can still have fun together! :D

Picked up Deserts of Kharak because I haven't done any RTS for too long.

Hi Min.

Not sure about Elite. I've done some reading and it sounds like a pretty full on game and I'm not sure I'd have the time to commit or invest in it right now.

Haha that is fair enough to be honest
It is a big game with very little point. But still some good fun.

I got nothing for ya... I was raised to not do things I wouldn't want done to myself. And that's why anal sex is off the agenda.

I see the Witcher 3 is on sale for $20 and everyone raves about it.

I was going to try to finish the Witcher 2 (again) - I've tried before but this time plan on playing through on easy just for the story because I had real trouble getting into it. The Witcher 3 should come back on sale at this price again around Christmas right?

In theory, but in the past some of the games I've wanted to get were on sale for a bit more in the Autumn sale than the Xmas sale.

Also, be sure to check the price against other distributors. Could be cheaper elsewhere, or (in the case of stores like Humble Bundle) you could also get a standalone installer too.
