Show Us Your Latest Purchase - January 2018

So unlike everyone else who is just starting, I'm about 12kg into my weightloss journey over the past few months and wanted to ramp it up a bit without joining a gym, so I bought these

Just need an olympic bar and some plates and I'll have a very decent home gym setup for only a few hundred bucks that will allow me to to 5x5 or SS at home, without fighting for equipment at hte gym, and for less than it would cost me to be a member at a gym for a year.

I bought this from Amazon UK before Christmas.
Arrived today.

Yet to watch it. I realised I neglected to put my old disk drives in to the new computer.
Ripped it on my laptop...

Had one of these for lunch.

Double BBQ Bacon Stacker from Hungry Jack's. Deserved it after nearly getting sideswiped on my bike. It was so good I might run the gauntlet for another one tomorrow. :)

Got a recent SFX psu for my NAS rebuild and discovered I needed an SFX Adapter (why aren't they provided - if only I had a 3D Printer).

$20 in AU or this one for $5USD
Image

Rear speaker stands, again way too much here, $35USD
Image

And just some random stuff.
Image

Image

and a new bluetooth OBD2 adapter to offset the stupid wifi one I originally got. Amazon won't send it to AU, but if you go directly to company, they do.. and cheaper. Weird. Had over 9000 (positive) reviews compared to the next closest one of about 1400 reviews (which is the one I originally got)
Image

Being the last OBD2 was WiFi, when the phone connected (and because I set it to default to download data etc when using WiFi in my house) it would then have issues using 4G for connections in the car. No spotify, even issues giving voice commands (because the internet is currently spotty in this location apparently ) and no connecting to other wifi locations as needed. I found and I am using an awesome Android Auto OBD2 plugin that displays info directly on my cars infotainment screen.

If any are interested, have a look at this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/genera ... e-t3657805 . It's still only new, but it gets a lot of updates at the moment and for the few items my car doesn't already tell me it has been very handy to see them easily on the centre screen.

Striplights for the back of the TV

After getting a home I have the itch to get Smart Home stuff.

Might start with a Hue light bulb set and go from there.

Does the backlighting on the TV relate to what's on screen?

The striplighting doesn't automatically relate to what's on screen but I believe it can be done, I'm not sure how easy or complicated that is though as I haven't looked into it. It may require a smart TV, which we don't have at the moment.

I chose Philips Hue because it has such a great reputation, I also love it's integration with IFTTT. I set up a few IFTTT scenario's last night such as "Ok google, sweet dreams" will turn off every light in the house, "Ok google, illuminate!" will turn on every light in the house, "Ok google, it's movie time" will dim the lights in the loungeroom to 20% brightness, etc. You can set up neat features where the system will use location services and will turn on selected lights upon your approach to your home and/or will turn off all lights once you are a certain distance away. You can also set up a light schedule for when you are on holiday, so it appears someone is in the House. I did only go with white bulbs though, as I really didn't think we'd use colour lighting all that often and I couldn't justify an additional $50 per bulb for a feature we probably wouldn't use. The only light we have that has the colour feature is the striplights for behind the TV.

Our robotic vacuum arrived this morning, it will be set up on a schedule so it vacuums the house whilst we are at work and all I'll need to do is run the mop over the floor once a week.

The next items on my hit-list are the Nest Protect smoke alarms, which also integrate with Google Home and can be used with IFTTT (ie: if smoke is detected, turn on all bedroom lights - will help wake anyone sleeping in conjunction with the alarm going off). I'd also like a smartlock for the front door.

Oh, and for some reason Arlo isn't integrating with IFTTT at the moment... when it does, I've worked out how to set up a few neat features such as turning on all lights upon motion being detected and make an announcement such as "Intruder detected. Recording commenced, security dispatched." or something like that.

I've actually found it interesting that I seem to be more hands on with this stuff than you... although it's probably a good thing, as you'd annoy me if you started altering all the commands and stuff I've set up :P

On topic though

Some headphones for work, will take a bit of getting used to as they drown out so much sound. I'm sure I will jump a few times in the next few weeks when people walk up behind me.

I got the Plantronics RIG400. They weren't expensive but sound nice for someone who isn't an audiophile :P

I also went the PC version because it came with the self adjusting elastic headband and the y-splitter for the audio cable.

Technically this was a last year purchase, just took forever to get here.

Up in the air about how good it is - still testing. Got this through Amazon Australia, certainly not a fan of the service as I paid the fastest shipping and it then took over 3 weeks to get to me anyway. When I queried it after 2 weeks, the company told me to "have some patience" to which I responded with "patience is for people who pay for normal mail, I paid for Priority/Express and it was suppose to take 5 days"
