Show us your latest purchase - Winter 2020

Post by Mini » 04 Jun 2020, 14:38

Thought I would be good and start a new thread rather than just posting in the Autumn thread...

(Stuck and unstuck threads as appropriate.)

I bought An Power Tool.

To sand my verandah railings down for repainting. It's horrible to use and very noisy. But the bits I've finished so far look nice so I'll keep chipping away.

Also finally bought one of these...

Mostly for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, but have also picked up Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the full Puzzle Quest pack. If I get bored of the first two I'll happily play Puzzle Quest for hours and hours as I did on my DS. :)

GYG is great as far as Mexican food franchises go... I had one of their burritos earlier in the week.

My GF's MacBook Air is about 10yrs old too. She'll want a new one if I show her your purchases Disco.

And Otto, that thing looks more like a Transformer!

Now you've got me thinking about putting in some red LEDs. I haven't even got it yet dammit!

I'd have taken the lazy option and stuck an autobot or deceptacon sticker on it but LEDs would be cool!

Had a variety of sushi for brunch (woke up late for breakfast and the GF and I wanted to get some sushi for lunch anyway).

It's our last day or normal eating before going back on another 100 days of our low carb diet. Said diet dropped my weight from 83kg to 71.5kg at the lowest before it bouncing back up to 74kg after a 3 weeks of regular eating (though we probably had too much deep fried and junk food).

You're like me, either gaining weight or losing weight there is no in-between! I really like Keto, I just hate the fact you can't deviate even a little. Seems like you've found something that works for you both tho which is awesome.

Cheers Disco. Yeah, we were definitely surprised by how the good the results have been. Given my high blood pressure and need to lose some weight/reduce my waist size, I'm certainly very grateful that the girlfriend got me to do this.

I wish there was a way to get the benefits of keto without having to actually do keto, the energy and lack of appetite is amazing and lend themselves well to weight loss that's for sure. I should pick it back up, but I enjoy cheat meals too much.

Are you tracking your macros etc.? What's your carb limit for the day? I've only ever done proper, strict keto under 20g net per day which is tough and limiting.

We started off doing a bit of calorie counting (the calorie counter book is actually still in front of me!) but the bulk of the meals we have we make from scratch so as long as we choose ingredients that are low carbs/calories, don't layer too much sauce/sugar/salt and exercise portion control, the meals generally turn out OK.

Tofu is a great source of protein without all the fat that comes with steak, pork or even some parts of chicken... as is seafood of course. I normally buy 2kg of fresh green banana prawns and un-shell and de-vein them before freezing them. Makes cooking a lot easier too when I can just take out a packet and just stir fry them up with some broccoli. We still eat the odd beef or chicken meal but

For a while, we were having salads and fruit for breakfast. Then we moved to microwaved frozen winter veges with a handful of cashew nuts and a boiled egg (minus yoke for me) and a piece of fruit. Not the most appetizing breakfast but it was filling and did the job.

Since my superzoom lens for my discontinued Nikon 1 cameras died and being quoted a repair cost greater than what I purchased the lens for, I've been without a superzoom which really sucks for travel.

Olympus has announced that it has agreed to sell it's imaging business...

https://www.dpreview.com/news/660715794 ... f-the-year

so their products have been getting the clearance treatment by Hardly Normal lately. This was down to $300 at 50% off so now I'm set for travel again!

Kathmandu loves sending me $20 off vouchers. The lastest one is for the anniversary of my account opening. So, as usual, when I don't know what I need, I go to the clearance section and pick out something cheap that fits me...

Image

Ironically, the small amount I paid for the shirt tipped me over the next threshold in spend that grants me another $20 voucher.

Stumbled into an EB Games today looking for that $49 flight stick. They were out of stock but they had the G300s on sale. As my current one is having LMB issues and I'm not sure if I'll like the G402S I've yet to unbox, I thought I'd buy one of these just in case.

I've got to start looking into joystick type things so I can suck in Star Wars Squadrons... and maybe finally play a bit of Elite: Dangerous!

Reusing my Tweet: That's a Glorious Keyboard. Modular keyboard you install the switches in yourself, though you can also buy them preassembled if you prefer. Took a while to plug all the switches in and pop all the keycaps on, but it was super easy. Now to decide whether I like these Gateron Clears or if I want to try some of the more exotic options!

Ah fuck! I forgot to cancel Spotify 2 days ago at the end of my trial so I've officially paid for my Spotify account now.

1TB NVMe drive... Slowly moving games across onto it. Then I can get rid of my external HDD... maybe plug it directly into my router as a network storage drive

I've done that and set it up as a media server. Way more convenient and power saving than either leaving the PC on or running a drive back and forth.

IKR! Normally I'm not a sucker for these things as I have my various dates for cancelling renewing things listed on my to do list but the past week I've just haven't looked at it. Anyway, I've set up a reminder on my phone to cancel it before the next month's fee comes along.

I really ought to create a media server to stream movies, TV shows, and music off it. I'm pretty sure the 3Tb HDD the PC shop thought had died isn't actually faulty.

It should simply be illegal to take credit card details when offering a free trial, IMO.

Most of the time you can cancel now and it just continues until the end of the month anyway.
They can't legally cut you off now if you cancel now without giving a refund.

Their official reason for doing it would likely be to prevent easy endless free trials.
