Yeah it was crazy difficult but after jumping through hoops it finally works. I use 2 different programs working together to emulate the xbox analogue stick with the steering wheel, and the axis of acceleration and brakes go on the pedals. The rest of it is just mapping the keys to different buttons on the wheel.
Feels absolutely great to drive in first-person view, and I switch back to the controller when walking/shooting.

Could you tell me what programs you used to do this? I have some games which have terrible joystick support and I've been trying to find a solution like this.

The first program is here: http://www.x360ce.com/
The second is just xpadder, I need it to make sure the triggers work on the xbox controller for shooting. This might not be necessary anymore as the thread where I learned the technique had a few people in it improving their setup and removing bugs. I was just lucky to get it working on my own with trial and error and never checked back to see if they'd perfected it.
You can find it here: http://ngemu.com/threads/gta-v-pc-and-x ... 785/page-4 - good luck, it's a fair slog and a lot of trial and error. Get used to seeing that R* splash screen with the sirens A LOT.

At this rate I think we should organise the cruise for Friday night at about 9:30pm DST (so 8:30pm Qld, 9pm Adelaide and 6:30pm WA)?? Will take a while for everyone to get organised no doubt, but that seems like the best time.

Any chance we can get a show of who is going to join? Rodidongs messaged me and he is keen for that time Friday.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone? :P

Well the GON ts servers are still up for the moment, we can just use a channel in there. In fact I think there already was one. I will have to check. There is in game voip as well.

If we start a friends only game then we can use the ingame voip I guess without the bonus of gta randoms

Was good fun, Sorry I was a little late, had to get the baby in bed, love how when the whole server is all people who know each other random ideas for fun just catch on, like trying to jump onto the train and raiding the army base.

Does anybody still happen to play this online on the PS3? My PC is too crap to make the most of this game, and I've had it since not long after release on PS3. Not done any heists yet though, as the thought of playing with complete randoms on a misson a bit of a turn off.

I found that too start as well, it felt pointless although the more time you spend in game the more there is to do and missions start to open up :)

It's been ages since I played online but I had a quick try to look at the latest update. As for first timers, the biggest problem online is usually the douchebags that hunt down the noobs, so I always suggest you start the game into story mode first then once there connect to online and select a "friends" only server. You will be put into your own online server basically where you can play out the first few levels at your own pace without any idiotic distractions.

Basically you have to follow through with a few missions until you get to a certain level. The game also suggests you get a car to use, I suggest to find the Ocelot F620 http://gta.wikia.com/wiki/F620 as it is the most expensive (and decent handling) car you are allowed to steal and keep. Anything better and you have to buy.

Once you get to (I think it is level 5??) you should be free to just go out into a normal online server. It is still a game you should play with friends or trusted acquaintances though as many of the missions (the decent paying ones) are best done with people that work together. Most randoms just suck.

Do races and events via your phone, it will match you to them quickly and provide a steady stream of cash. I made almost all of my money just doing races (not that I have a lot). Then you can start looking at buying a house, cars, weapons etc and more of the game will open up to you as you go. You can also find the missions/jobs via your phone and progressing through these will cause others to open up.

or just run around aimlessly like a madman :D
