For those that want to listen to the article rather than read it...

And some Season 16 rewards and conquests info...

Conquests are a pretty easy selection IMHO.

Yeah, S16 start date next year clashes with a belated xmas/new years catch up I have with some past work colleagues. I can understand that they want people to spend time with their families but having a short-ish season over xmas/new years would be nice for players at home over the break with nothing much to do.

This is quite entertaining... especially Brian and his baby...

Next season starts 19th January 2019 and will only be a 2 month season:

Kinda weird that they come up with an interesting buff only to limit our play time with it.

So the first decent patch in over a year dropped yesterday with a series of set buffs. I ran my first GR since the patch dropped... went for a GR95 with my Barb... did it in 10min where I was struggling to do a GR90 beforehand. Pretty sure GR100 is within my reach, especially with my Tal Rasha Meteor build in SC... I farmed up some good gear for my Wizard last season.

Yeah - started the Darkening event at 61ish and managed to grind out all the way to 70 while going through it. Good times :)

I got my HC DH to 70 on day 1 but RIPped that evening with my 4pc bonus. The next morning I got the remainder of a PL to 70 and also ended up with 3pcs of Nat of which two were rings. Converted one to a different piece and I was back to my 4pc bonus again. Managed to piece together something with enough toughness and damage to get the 6pc. Currently rocking a Rapid Fire Nats set up that hits hard but has bugger all defense.

My SC Barbarian got a PL and I managed to get the Seismic Slam bracers at lvl1 for the cube. I should be able to do T4 OK... I have 4pc IK and 2pc R6 to help with fury gen when there's a low number of enemies.

But Wizard is a great class. I played in on both accounts last season which is why I'm not going Wizard this season. But crazy that the Tals Meteor build is able to push 107 by the end of day 1 now. Be sure to watch the boss fight at least:

Got to 70 yesterday, and a bit beyond, on my usual Barbarian. Got through to the 6 piece set in the end but not actually tried it yet. Was managing T4 okay with only 4 pieces though so I imagine the 4000% damage boost might help a bit!

Surprised there's no icon for the Ring of Royal Grandeur buff. Also, I looted one as well, so it's a shame they can't stack. :D

Yeah, imagine the builds we could make if they stacked.

The 6000% buff on shadows 2pc is pretty insane as well. I coupled it with Chakram for a while. Very effective for early game.

Having fun with the Wiz this season. The Archon based default build is pretty sweet. Got into a group doing T6 (or was it T8?) rifts yesterday where at least one guy was well overgeared for it and took us through a bunch of GR55 runs. The gear drops form that and some luck with Kadala have meant that my Ming has got almost everything she needs for Firebird Star Pact build mentioned in the tier lists.

Firebird Star Pact
Firebirds is an odd set... it sucks for standard difficulty stuff because you rarely have the 20 or whatever it is enemies burning for you damage reduction and the instant an elite is ignited, you kill everything including the elite. At higher difficulty stuff (GR90+ now I'd say), that's when you can keep an elite ignited and herd it with you to keep the 6pc buff going.

They really need to redesign the set again... maybe reduce it to 4 stacks and give larger increments per stack.

Almost got Guardian on my HC account. Just need to augment a gem and cube about 15 more powers. No hurry... I'm gonna level up the gem first so as not to waste it. I've gotten some decent drops including an ancient Yangs that didn't roll too badly and an ancient Karlei's Point... I've subsequently gotten my UE set up going and also got an Impale build for higher GRs. Still trying to get that ancient Nats Slayer for N6/M4.

On my SC account, I was lucky to get a carry tonight. I was so low level, a GR80 gave me 88 paragons!. Up to about P350 now. Managed to get an ingeom, endless walk set with OK stats, COTA shoulders to help with my resource, and the HOTA bracers with a decent enough roll. Did my set dungeon first try which is nice. Will inch my way to Guardian in SC and get a pull barb going.

The full 6 piece kicks in around elite packs though, and until you hit the higher torment levels the 60% DR isnt a factor anyways. Plus with the RoRG season bonus, you can switch out mantle of channelling (or whatever the shoulders are called). dmg bonus and 25% DR while channelling arcane torrent.

Plus its gotta be one of the easiest set dungeons ever -" 1) Ignite or kill 20 enemies within 3 seconds 6 times; and 2) Hit 50 different enemies with the Meteor Meteor that revives you." Cheesed it by getting a large crowd and dieing a couple of times - the revival meteor was enough to do both - then just a matter of killing everything else in there.

I suppose my experience is a bit different as I played FB in HC with it as the starter set. Back in S13, I had tremendous trouble running even T10 after getting the full set due to the lack of effective DR. Second lives were triggered frequently including the odd double trigger. Unlike Tal Rasha which activates the toughness and damage multiplier buffs on skill cast meaning one can bring up the buffs prior to engaging enemies, FB requires you to engage first to get those buffs up.

Compared to the Sunwuko monks and Shadow DHs I was running with, they had their set DR buff pretty much always on and were able to run T10 without issues upon completing their 6pc sets.

I had ABBs in the cube as my only DR buff (thanks to lvl1 gambling), though, shields aren't an effective source of DR until one gets their max shields up. It wasn't until I got one of the Halo rings or possibly Aquila that I was able to confidently step up the difficulty without triggering off one of the second life procs. Mantle of Channeling is welcome but that 25% isn't much on its own.

If you get all the items needed for the build and run it optimised from the start, I'd imagine it'll handle T13 fine. Karini adds an amazing amount of DR and almost always up if you stay mobile enough. But FB on its own though is horrible.

It helps - I got lucky early on with some good drops (Etched Sigil, Parthian Defenders, whatever the belt is) early on - as well as someone taking us through some GR55s when we weren't really geared.

I just usually pick a high tier build and try to cobble it together. With the dmg and RoRG buffs this season I've just kept at it for longer than usual.

Yeah, that seems to be what the majority of players do... pick a high end build, work towards it, and in 2-4 weeks after season start you have a mostly ancient specced build.

Unless you want to level up gems to push leaderboards, augment your gear, farm xp through rat runs, or farm cosmetics, there's not much more to do for that class/build.

Finally got my Gavel of Judgement for my Barb in SC!

I've loving the RORG buff this season. I've decided to use Bracers of the First Men in the cube (for max damage roll) and wear Nems instead. Since I only run in groups, this really helps out, especially when we don't have a zdps. I've just got a lot of gem leveling to do now along with boss killings.
