Bluetooth Adapter (+PS3 Controller)

Post by GamingKen » 19 Jan 2016, 22:36

I know sweet fuck all about bluetooth but basically I want to start using my PS3 controllers wirelessly on my PC and I understand this can be done via Bluetooth (along with the other software needed to get the PC to recognize the controller) The problem is my PC does not have Bluetooth. So the question is, can I buy one of those little Bluetooth USB receivers to do the job? Such as this? (that's just the first one google presented me with and not a specific choice)

Cheers! I thought it seemed right but I have basically zero experience with Bluetooth so just wanted to double check :)

I got nothing for ya... I was raised to not do things I wouldn't want done to myself. And that's why anal sex is off the agenda.

I was looking into this a while back mate and decided to not bother with the bluetooth adapter as every cheapish one I looked at had issue but things may have changed over the past two or more years.

In the end, I purchased a XB1 controller and later, a cheap wired 360 controller (the use of a micro USB cable to the XB1 controller didn't feel secure and I wasn't keen on paying for the battery pack/wireless adapter).

Currently using my PS3 controller MotioninJoy drivers wired on Win 10 but from what I remember

1. Just about any bluetooth adaptor will do. The software completely replaces the drivers. Don't expect to use the adaptor for anything else.
2. You need to connect the controller using a wired connection first.
3. If you are having issues installing either the controller or bluetooth driver, set your PC time back to 2014 for the initial install. Their signed driver had an expiry date of end 2014 IIRC.

Ended up getting it working with the SCP drivers, using the USB cable for the moment, and ordered myself a cheap Bluetooth adapter off eBay which should arrive later this week. I'll give it a test then and see how it goes. So far I'm loving using the PS3 controller anyway, compared to my Logitech F310.

Got the Bluetooth adapter now and can confirm it is working perfectly with the Scp drivers! Very happy :)
