Well this isn't surprising...

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-04-07/ ... s/12126302

I remember seeing youtube vids around the lunar new year when China shut down of the medical heads in the US being interviewed. Their response to the coronavirus was that the US was going through a serious flu season with many dying and that should be their main focus. Pretty sure they're regretting saying those words now.

The professor in this video was being diplomatic. The US got two other things wrong before the lack of testing:

  1. They have an idiot for a president who is not qualified to lead the country, let alone through a pandemic.
  2. When interviewed back in late Jan about the outbreak in China, their health officials said that their flu season at the time was more worrying.

I mean, they were kind of warned that this coronavirus thing was a problem back in November:

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/04/08/poli ... index.html

so they really only have themselves to blame. I do wonder throughthe Five Eyes group whether our intelligence services were warned also...

And now the excuse is to blame China for "obscuring it".

The message was probably that it would be a bigger problem for the economy to lock down. That's what they're more concerned about... but if they had one healthy brain cell amongst the decision makers, they would have closed us off to the rest of the world in early Feb, initiated social distancing measures for 4 weeks (2 wks to let the virus symptoms show amongst carriers and another 2wks for further contract tracing/testing to help weed out asymptomatic cases) and they could have operated a closed economy from early March onwards. Only 1 month of economic stimulus to pay for.

But now we're stuck with several months of lock down/social distancing until a vaccine is available and many businesses closing down.

The Sky News articles on this exact matter are really pissing me off. It's not like we were ever going to be immune to a pandemic regardless of where ever it comes from. Rather than take responsibility for defending our society against such things, there's a blame game culture which just breeds more lazy and incompetent people who don't show any real leadership.

So the QLD State Government's draft protections for tenants is causing a bit of a stir...

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-04-15/ ... 9/12144418

TBH, if it really does grant a rent free period with no payback required, that's not only shafting the landlords, it's providing zero incentive to have their property tenanted. I know that if my tenants were paying zero rent, I'd prefer to have the property back for additional isolation space.

The best outcome is to negotiate a rental reduction... even if it's $50/week, that's something the landlord can use to continue paying their mortgage and not incur the full interest during their property loan pause.

And in proving how utterly stupid he is Trump has suggested injecting corona patients with disinfectant to clean up the virus because disinfectant kills the virus on surface within minutes.......he is so utterly out of his fucking mind it's not funny!!!

I just caught up on the whole Trump disinfectant thing... that man is so dumb the mind boggles how he became President. I suppose that saying holds true... "Only in America".

It was only sarcasm. Allegedly.

Surely his aides will stop him from holding press conferences from now on.

I wonder who is going to end up saying the most stupid, incomprehensible things during their presidency, Trump or Biden?

Yeah, he said he was being sarcastic but he certainly didn't seem it.

At a later press conference, he let Pence do the talking and then just walked out when the conference was over. Definitely didn't want to face the hard questions.

The idea that the President of the United States would sarcastically tell people to inject bleach at an official briefing makes it even worse IMO. He's saying he's not an idiot, he intentionally told people information that if followed, could kill them.

Washinston Post has a great story about trump - in 13 hours of trump at those "Press Conferences" he's spent most of his time attacking opponents and the media ,telling lies ,say how great he is and just 4 1/2 minutes expressing sympathy for those that have died....

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics ... story.html

There are words I'd like to say about him but even by the fairly lenient rules here I'd be banned

You think he can't get any worse than he's shown before then he goes a whole shit ton beyond ,nearly 160000 dead and he's "it is what it is"....
Ive figured what it is about the too much testing thing - it's a variation on Schrodinger's cat ,testing and observation changes the state of something ,in this case if you don't get tested then you can't have Covid But if you get tested that changes your state and you magically get Covid..

He'd sort of have a point on testing, in that other countries are doing insufficient testing and thus not exposing the caseload they actually have, while America has a better idea of their true number of cases.

But I don't think he's talking about it in that way, because he's an idiot.
