Re: Formula 1
I went halves with my brother in Foxtel Play, we both wanted AFL and F1's, so for $20 a month it isn't too bad...
Agree Jambo, it would be nice... especially for the price

Re: Formula 1
It's in HD on the Telstra TV thing now, so even with them obviously favoring that, hopefully it'll end up HD on other devices at some stage soon

Re: Formula 1
I checked and Optus also offer Foxtel in HD on their TV stuff, but right now my brother-in-law is doing Foxtel Play because he can run it on his iPad and PS4. We use the 3rd slot for our PS4.
I don't think the app has been updated for a few years. It instantly crashed when I tried to run it on my XBone...

Re: Formula 1
The old one was so boring, glad for some change.
Looks like a bubble gum wrapper.
Interested to see what it will look like in day light.

Re: Formula 1
Damn F1 channel on Foxtel...
Ended up watching about 5 of the old races / seasons review last night. I think we saw a single race highlights package from 1985 / 86 / 88 / 89 and a review of the 1990 season. Missed 87 because it was on during the same time as Top Gear.
Was interesting watching it with my brother though, as he is older than me and was a huge Prost fan as a teenager.

Re: Formula 1
As much as I dislike Vettel, good to see someone other than Hamilton win again. And hear him sooking about his tyres all race.
Also good to see someone just take it to Mercedes on raw speed, might be a better championship.
Bugga for Ricciardo and the issues he had, but good to see how well the other Red Bull went, and that it was nice and reliable.
Now to look forward to the China GP in 2 weeks.

Re: Formula 1
Agreed on all the above, and generally pretty glad Lance Stroll didn't wipe out half the field from behind into turn 1!
Race was pretty boring otherwise though. Cars still slow (compared to their ultimate pace) from being fat on fuel, passing now even harder with current aero. One day they will get smart enough to regulate simplified two plane wings back into the sport and get rid of these current expensive-to-design wings and all the silly winglets, going back to a smooth flowing body that reduces the wake and lowers the costs for all teams.

Re: Formula 1
Maybe with the American's owning it now something like that may happen, but probably not.
I was surprised that there wasn't a safety car for the entire race. No major crashes, just a couple of spins really. Everyone else that went out was due to engine or gearbox failure... (Or for Ricciardo, both)

Re: Formula 1
Yea, hopefully Liberty "whatever they are called" will do something good with it - they have definitely started taking steps, even with things off track such as the F1 YouTube channel, which is greatly improved this year. It will be interesting to see how far they take the series over the next 2 - 3 years, and how much they do to bring down car development costs to give the smaller teams a fair chance (and less of a reliance on complicated aero, that neither benefits road car development or pushes F1 forward competitively, is a great place to start evening the playing field)

Re: Formula 1
The 1 change I do like that they added is that engine developers can do what they like (No token system, how ever that was meant to work) and improve the engines during the season.
Maybe Honda and Renault can make some major improvements.

Re: Formula 1
Was a pretty unexciting race, good for Ferrari and the wider championship, but as a single event, ehhhhhhhhhh

Re: Formula 1
Agree Makena,
So little actually happened. And I think the changes they have done the the front wing have made it worse for overtaking.
A few cars seem to get to the 0.8 to 1 second gap and just never got any closer.

Re: Formula 1
Their official 6 and a half minute highlights video says it all. There are only a couple of interesting moments, maybe 3 minutes out of the packaged highlights. EDIT - Ugh, they have blocked playing it on external websites, but you can watch it back on YouTube.

Re: Formula 1
Being at the track it was a bit more exciting, especially as it was my first live F1 experience, but yeah, looking back on it now it was pretty uneventful outside of a couple of overtakes and the Dan drama at the start.
Still loved the experience of going over.
Everything that Ross Brawn said at the F1 Fan Forum makes me feel pretty positive about the future of the sport.

Re: Formula 1
Brother-in-law and I got some pretty decent photos on his new DSLR. Our grandstand tickets gave us Silver GP Advantage access, so we could go above the pits on Thursday, and walk through them on Friday. Also walked the main straight. Photos from the race will come soon.

Yeah I still enjoyed attending it, and more often than not Melbourne sees the safety car, but I guess not every race can have carnagejambo wrote:Being at the track it was a bit more exciting, especially as it was my first live F1 experience, but yeah, looking back on it now it was pretty uneventful outside of a couple of overtakes and the Dan drama at the start.

Nice pictures, I gave my ticket to my Dad on the Thursday so he could use the gold GP Advantage stuff for the pit lane walks etc, I think he was busy with his camera but I haven't seen anything yet
