It went for an hour today, which is over twice the time any other interview I've ever done was. Except that time I applied to stack shelves in K Mart - those people are really thorough!

Not sure how it went, got mixed vibes from the two people in the room. Will find out next week.

New version of Firefox is shit.

Most of my addons don't work with it now (no net usage item, no script, etc), my tabs are above the address bar again, the Top Sites shown when I start a new tab is limited to 12 now.

Mozilla, if I wanted to use a set up similar to that of your competitors, I'd use your competitors' browsers.

Also signed up to 21% off origin plan for electricity last night. Just saw the email confirming my lodgement... the address isn't quite correct... need to call them up now. I swear I spend half my life correcting fuck ups from others.

At least our essential services such as health care (at least in the big cities) is still better than many other countries in the world.

Yeah thats what i always thought until my father had his stroke... sure it didn't cost us anything, but there's probably no reason he should be disabled today. You always see this bullshit on medical shows about how they break up clots and do all kinds of fancy shit and the person walls out 3 days later... pretty sure dad still hadn't been scanned within 3 days and I'd hardly consider my local a dinky country hospital.

Zero rehab attempts, near zero attempts at correct pain management, you dont get a budget increase for helping non indigenous patients though.

Sorry about what happened to your father mate.

I probably should have said head hospital in a capital city in my previous post because that's my impression of which hospital to go for. When mum had breast cancer, the Gold Coast hospitals didn't seem adequately equipped to handle the matter since my folks don't speak English all too well and the hospital often hesitated to utilise a translator. The family also felt that mum and dad needed to be closer to my bro and I for us to be able to help out adequately so for most of this year, I had my folks living with me. The Royal Brisbane Hopsital was the hospital we got mum into and the difference in expertise, attitude etc between the RBWH and the Gold Coast Hospitals was day and night. The key difference IMHO was attitude towards these matters. The RBWH staff seemed to really go all out towards making sure we were tended to.

Dad currently has his own health issues and why he decided to go back to the Gold Coast hospitals is beyond me. They seem to hesitate with getting scans, etc done where as the RBWH just got on with it in a timely manner so a good decision could be made.

In saying that, my impression is that for matters where within a few days, a person can suffer severe health conditions, yeah, the public health systems just aren't able to cope. It could be much worse from what I know of health services in other countries. But we're still not perfect... from the ability of many GPs to how hospitals operate. it wasn't too long ago where I read an article that some kid had died because the GP didn't diagnose the matter properly despite the mother's insistence that there was definitely something wrong.

And then we have people who keep flapping about the QLD state public service being too big. I'm sure it happens in other states too. This generalising leads to cuts in health services along with all the other departments.

The previous paragraphs probably mean very little when your dad is disabled already. Hopefully your family has been able to find ways for him to deal with any ongoing pain.

Our family have been spending a lot on our family naturopath. He's actually got proper medical training but chooses to utilise natural medicines. These sorts of naturopaths aren't easy to find for sure and we've been lucky he's been achieving results for both mum and dad.

Fitting 21 people into my 2 bedroom unit today was fun... 21 family members at that.
Had a good day, but absolutely worn out after it all. Now attempting to relax while kids have baths, and then getting them to bed and having a game or 2 of something. Not something I have to think about tonight though...

To say I wasn't ready for Monday would be a huge understatement, on the upside there are only 24 working days left in the year.

That feeling when you're dealing with people who are so hopeless you're not really sure if they're lying to you to avoid doing something or if they genuinely don't have a clue.

I think I just blew up my PC. Put it into sleep mode right after exiting a game, so the CPU fan didn't have time to cool it down. Now the PC won't start back up again.

I'm hoping giving it more time might fix it, but I doubt it.

Like you get nothing, no fans spin or anything? Or does it fire up and not boot properly or what?

First thing I always do it disconnect the power, open it up, play with all the connections, blow the dust out of it, just make sure it's all ship-shape physically. Pretty surprising how often that's "fixed" my computers.

There's the initial boot-up sound including the polling of my DVD drive, but the CPU fan is not as loud as it normally is and no signals go to the mouse or keyboard.

My CPU/motherboard/RAM combination is 6 years old, so it's time for an upgrade anyway, but it's still a pain. Only thing I can swap is my old graphics card (upgraded 2 years ago) on the small chance that the graphics card is the issue. Other than that, NFI what to do.

Graphics card is getting power (at least you light it up), and the motherboard is getting power because the CPU fan is on. Part of me wonders if it's the power supply unable to supply enough power.

EDIT: I swapped out the graphics cards and put my old one in. The GPU fans sounded like they were trying to start up but didn't have enough power. And that process keep on ad infinitum. I googled the lack of beep, which indicates a lack of enough power, so I'm strongly leaning towards my power supply dying. (Also need a new case fan, the bearings on the current one are gone)

Guess I know how I'll be spending my lunch break tomorrow...

I just thought it'd be a lot harder than that to fry a CPU (or any other part). I dunno, if you don't have the gear to start swapping bits and pieces around, maybe flash/reset the bios and see if that does anything for you?

I'm always more inclined to blame windows for messing things up than it being a genuine problem with the hardware.
