1 more shift than a 6 day break from work.
I'd kill for that
To be fair I've worked 7, 7, 7, 15, RD, NS, NS, NS, NS, NS, NS, NS, Recov day, 15, 15.

It's a really fucking long 2 weeks. Its essentially 13 days with 1 off (recov day doesn't count, thats just sleeping all day/night).

I'm about to have 8 weeks plus off work to have surgery on my right wrist. Getting psyched up for lots of tv watching.

Things I don't miss.. shift work, the novelty of weekends, christmas and other PH's off work has not lost it's appeal, but yeah man you've earned some R&R

Yeah I definitely don't miss shift work either.

I mean some days I miss it, for the RDO's - but grand scheme, not. at. all.

Installed the new PSU and the PC still won't get past the boot sequence. Bugger.

Gonna pull out my peripherals one by one, but it seems it's time for a CPU/RAM/MB upgrade.

Not the worst time to do a PC upgrade, all things considered. There's some great prices on Ebay atm for stuff with a 20% off sale (look on Ozbargain), Ryzen CPUs have just had a price drop and Black Friday sales are just around the corner.

I feel 6 years out of the loop in terms of which CPU to get. Perhaps I should resurrect a thread on tech chat.

New computer is running smoothly. Only problem is Windows won't reactivate, as my licence key is for Windows 7. Thought it would transfer with that annoying upgrade they made me do, but no. Support recognises I have a legit key, but won't support it because it comes from the MSDN network.

Might actually have to buy a retail copy of Windows.

Changed one of the two down lights in my room the other day only to have the other one die too.

Gonna try a LED one instead of halogen. Hopefully the transformer etc supports LED MR16 lights.

The worse that happens is flickering, so you might wanna update your switch or install a load bypass;

Pretty annoyed that I bought things from an eBay store in Vic 11 days ago and it still hasn't arrived. It was going to be a little project for my time off :-/

I changed some down-lights in the kitchen to LED's and had to do the transformers to. It's super easy, all you need is a screwdriver (and make sure the electricity is off - like all the way off - like to zero :) ). Glad I did it.

I'm thinking of buying my wife something off Amazon (US) but keep hearing the Aussie Amazon is coming soon. Should I wait and buy stuff locally from Amazon? I don't want to wait so long that if I get stuck ordering something from the States it might not arrive on time....

Amazon's been "coming soon" sooner for so long now it's a bit like that Achilles and the tortoise paradox. Always closer, but never arriving. You've got a solid month still for things to arrive and there's no guarantees on what the Australian Amazon prices will be. Take the gamble on US Amazon imo.

In other news, been looking at maybe doing some post-grad uni study. If I'm not too late to enrol for next year at any rate. I never thought I'd ever consider doing that, even just 6 months ago I'd have said there was 0 chance of me going back. Just seems like it might be the right thing to do for where I want to go with my work/life/whatever. Funny how things can change.

LED downlights work without flickering or any issues as far as I can tell. I should probably change all the other ones to LED at some point... uses less energy and are brighter.

Yeah, I was the same a while back. I wasn't really too fond of my overall experience during undergrad and never saw much of a need for postgrad studies. Then in late 2008, after I broke up with my girlfriend at the time and a need for more staff at my workplace to be qualified as Project Managers, I managed to strike a deal with the workplace for them to pay for a Masters degree. For me, I needed something to keep me occupied without me having to spend more money so I could pay off my loan, and PM was one of those skills I picked up at Uni that I did want to get a qualification for so I'd have some recognition for that skill.

It was a tough 3.5yrs still... zero social life, only very occasional gaming to save me some sanity, still putting in the required hours (if not more) at work to ensure my projects were on schedule (not too many public servants ask for a 24/7 access card but I found myself needing to go back into the office after class from time to time to progress things), and studies on top of that. But the degree proved to be invaluable to ensure I remained competitive when applying for jobs... and there's definitely been a few dark times in the career where I've had to go find something else.

Always impressed by any adult studying above and beyond what their job requires. I've wanted to do that myself, but I'm pretty spent after work that dedicated study would just do me in.

Yeah, I was contemplating doing a grad cert next year if I managed to get our annual Director General's scholarship. But I decided not to apply as it's a lot of effort to devote to uni study. It was a different story when I was in my late 20s... still had a lot more energy when burning the candle at both ends. Back issues and feet issues wear me down quite easily these days. God knows how I'd do it if I had kids.

Instead, I'm probably just going to do a diploma through a relevant professional body... a lot less work from what I can tell and I really should be spending more time working on getting a higher paid position than studying.

Steam is recommending me Life is Strange: Before the Storm... because I play 80 Days.

So, the fact that I own and have 100% the original Life is Strange wasn't a good enough reason?

Unsure if it's the same date for all states but you got till Dec 4 to enroll in SA.
