Rian also said the trailer was really good and Rian was right. So good, is it Christmas time yet? :)

So what was Luke talking about when he said "I've seen this raw strength only once before. It didn't scare me enough then. It does now."
I have my suspicions, but just want to confirm...

Pretty sure he's talking about Kylo Ren. If there was another powerful force wielder in the galaxy they probably would've been hinted at by now?

So far I've managed to get on the hype train by leveraging off everyone elses' enthusiasm from seeing the trailer. I think I'll leave it there and not spoil anything... like what I'm doing for Blade Runner 2049.

I thought exactly the same thing. Maybe it'll get deep fried by a Jawa really early on?

The Plushie is strong with this one. Merchandising from a galaxy far, far away:

https://www.shopdisney.com/porg-plush-s ... di-1443109

https://www.shopdisney.com/porg-talking ... di-1445533

https://www.shopdisney.com/porg-pop-vin ... di-1448698

https://www.shopdisney.com/porg-mug-sta ... di-1442783

https://www.shopdisney.com/star-wars-th ... le-1448618

https://www.shopdisney.com/star-wars-th ... le-1448622

etc, etc.

Disney will need to keep churning the movies out to support their merchandising industry.

So I managed to avoid watching the trailer since it came out...

UNTIL THE BASTARDS SHOWED IT IN FRONT OF JUSTICE LEAGUE TONIGHT!!!!!

I mean c'mon! I went to see a WB movie. Why the hell would WB put the trailer for their competitors (the company that owns Marvel) in front of their movie?

You do realise it has nothing to do with the companies that produce the movies but more with the company (theatre) showing the movies. Look what new movies that are coming and if you watch it here, we'll make more money!!! :D

I thought distributors managed to get control over what trailers are shown in front of their films? There's always some news on Dark Horizons about what trailers are attached in front of upcoming films. Or was that just in the states?

My bro wanted the same thing but I managed to convince him to go to the new local Dendy in my area. Sunday arvo should be pretty dead and the seats are new and don't smell or have arse prints on them yet.

I had a friend ask me if I wanted to go to the midnight premier.. I was like hell no, I'd almost rather cut off my toes with a swiss army knife

Funny thing was that my bro roped me into a midnight screening for ep7. I think he's settled into his 30s now as he's done a 180 on the whole midnight screening, busy cinemas thing now.

Pretty good movie overall! Did enjoy

Spoilers below (yes I'm saying this even though it's in spoiler tags)
While I enjoyed it and think it's a good movie, there was a number of things I didn't like.
  • I didn't really like Superwoman Leia, but whatever she is a Force user so I'll allow it.
  • The whole Casino scene with the herd of animals, just, eugh, fuck. Basically didn't add anything good to the movie.
  • The slicer betraying them seemed totally unnecessary, the first order had them all after the droid saw them (Unless I misunderstood and he'd already tipped them off before the droid saw them, which is possible)
  • Phasma totally fucking wasted as a character, what the actual fuck was the point, especially if she's actually dead
  • Holdo not telling the crew the plan in the ship when she had command, I kinda get not telling poe as he was being a bit uppity, but it seemed no one else outside of her direct confidants knew
But now that's all out of the way, Rey is great, Kylo is great, the interactions they have are fantastic. Kylo killing Snoke was actually very well executed for me, and Luke sacrificing himself wasn't a surprise but was a very touching moment, and I think both Leia and Rey talking about how they felt the peace from it was a great touch. The lightsaber being destroyed forces Rey to make a new one, so I'm curious to know what colour she'll end up with. There was a lot of humor through the movie, borderline overdone, but overall was good (I don't hate Porgs, colour me a little shocked).

There's probably more I'll think of as I think about the movie more, and I'm seeing it again tomorrow

Just came back from watching it...
The things that really annoyed me (quite a few mirror Makena's thoughts):

- The casino sequences. That place did not feel like a galaxy far, far away.
- Phasma being wasted again.
- Too much humour. It got to me. I wanted a more serious tone.
- Rey being so bloody gifted in using the Force... there's bugger all training she gets. Just some guidance for direction.
- Too my unnecessary cute creature placement
- No backstory for Snoke again.
- The whole Leia using the force bit to escape the cold, vacuum of space. It just felt off for some reason.
- Bombers... why do they need bombers for in space? Wouldn't missiles/proton torpedoes be more effective?

The things I enjoyed:

- Mark Hamill. He's really good in this movie IMHO. Luke's arc was surprising and Hamill pulled it off really well.
- Laura Dern's/Oscar Isaac's arcs...
- The Millennium Falcon's combat scenes in the final act... yeah, I enjoyed them
- Luke's point of view that the Jedis were failures and that it was time for their time to end given that there will always be force sensitive people

Not sure I like The Last Jedi.

I saw it yesterday at 1pm in 3d, cinema was only about half full which was surprising. Movie itself was okay to good. The 3d was surprisingly effective (never seen a picture in 3d before would you believe) and the action sequences are great, the story felt a bit cobbled together though. Overall I thought it was better than 7 because it was a bit more original and less of a rehash.
