Had a blood test done this morning, which I have done fairly frequently these days - I don't know what the lady did but holy snaps, my arm is in agony - aching/throbbing and hurts to lift or move it etc.
Hopefully they just grazed the inside and it's nothing to worry about.

Recently I wanted to record my last cannula (I get mine every 8 weeks for my infusion medication) for a friend that is terrified of needles and the site of blood makes them queasy Image and unfortunately for me I got the best nurse for cannula's at the hospital where I have my infusions. Perfect as ever and didn't feel a thing or have any blood spilt. Made for a boring video... I suppose there is always next time! Image

Hope you enjoy the impromptu holiday Storm... an unplanned rest ends up sorely missed when the opportunity disappears.

And hope those of you doing medical stuff feel better soon or have good results.

I finally got around to booking my next round of health appointments (the ones I've sat on for about 3 months). The muscular skeletal guy I'm seeing in 2 weeks but the orthopedic surgeon won't be till Nov. My foot is starting to hurt more so I hope I can hold out till then.

It came good after lunch, thankfully... it was really bothering me. Hard to concentrate and work when you're in pain.

Finally got a start date for my new workplace - the 29th. Looks like I'll have a couple of extra days off at the start of next week.

Neko wins.

I've stopped looking at annual leave now as I know I will have enough for 3 months off around July 2020 assuming everything falls in to place.

I've been a contractor for the last 2.5 years, so any time off is time I'm not getting paid.

Unless Neko has access to banked accrued time leave or long service leave. I haven't taken rec leave in over 2yrs myself but still managed a long weekend away via use of ATL against a weekend. I'd have taken more self imposed long weekends had I not used so much ATL dealing with mum's breast cancer treatment.

And if an organisation has the option to cash out excess leave, it can be a life saver during difficult times.

Of course, a decent amount of time off during each year would be ideal but if your work organisation gives you access to other types of leave, it can give you the option to build up leave for a bigger trip like what I'm hoping to do (assuming I don't need to cash in my excess leave to help pay for my complex's repairs).

My boss hates giving me leave, and I don't use a lot of it, which is great because every time I get a pay rise the value of my banked leave goes up :D

Knowing Neko, as he practically lives in my house via a headset most nights of the week, I'd lean more towards the idea that he's not had a holiday in quite some time...

Between 2 jobs, running my business and two kids (one with special needs) I’m lucky to get a sleep in once a week let alone time off.

But it’s all for them so I’ll wait till they are rich and can support me :)

That's a tough gig kharis... but I'm sure it'll pay off. I can't be the only one who'd spend the day taking their mum to the naturopath to help them recover from cancer treatment (not that I'm wishing cancer on you later in life... just kids that'll respect and care for their mother).

LOL. Fair point that. Sounds like he needs to cash in that leave and start paying you rent.

I believe it's when you get really sick and the workplace tells you to stay home and rest because they don't want to get sick too.

It's worse now as there's literally nobody who can do my job atm. I'm not training anyone for what i get paid and taking 2 weeks off would leave a workload that would take 6 months to recover from.

This pretty much doesn't happen in the US unless you are actively vomiting blood or something. Calling out sick is seen as rather shameful even.
Personal experience: Coworkers getting angry at me for leaving work early because I was sitting on a 7/10 for pure, raw pain (that regular painkillers apparently don't work on) stacked on top of heat exhaustion.

That's a really appalling work culture IMHO. And that's not just because I'm a public servant. When I was in private sector, we had a strong Zero Harm culture. Working around dangerous machinery and products and avoiding exhaustion from the environment requires a less reckless and gung ho attitude. But I suppose we are talking about America here.

That doesn't exist in many places in Australia either Mugsy, my boss would rather me come to work and be sick, functioning at 10% of my ability, then for me to take 2-3 days off to recover, potentially making other staff sick as well and having an on flow effect of illness through the business.

Luckily for me, I don't care what he prefers  Also a big fan of the odd mental health day here and there too.

In the public service, there are plenty of contractors who come to work sick because "they don't get paid if they don't come to work" - which just means sickness spreads throughout departments in winter. Taking sick days is social ettiquete 101, right up there with washing your hands after using the bathroom.

Yeah I don't do that, our bathroom is open air so to speak, so it's the same temperature in there as it is outside, and there is no hot water plumbed to the bathroom, so screw that.

I use the hell out of hand sanitizer tho.

Also, I've literally never heard Disco say he couldn't play games with you for any reason other than you were working/sleeping/seeing a movie/dealing with family shit.

I know what you are saying though, my job was like that when I worked in mining - I still took holidays but the stress caused by the backlog when I returned was ridiculous and it would take forever to recover from.

Current role is pretty good, most of my job is dealing with stuff on the fly - incoming families, departing families, families in distress, volunteer enquiries, volunteer training, volunteer resignations, rostering, ensuring day to day operations are running smoothly, front of house administration etc --- so really, very little of that can pile up as most of it needs to be dealt with at the time.

Also, my boss has had a metric shitload of time off this year with seriously ill family members which means I've been on call probably 26-27 nights of every month and she has been on call 4 nights at the very most, and I've kept her shit afloat whilst she's been absent so she is pretty good at picking up my stuff and dealing with it if I am away. But when there are only 2 staff members you really do have to pull together in a way bigger teams might not.
