I hate bus travel, it's such a poor person way to get around
With enough planning it can be a gamer way to get around  Not that I catch them very often these days, now that I don't work in the CBD anymore.

It's a lot better in big cities. I have the option of spending around $7 a day on busses or $30 on parking plus whatever on petrol. Due to the OBahn the bus is probably faster than a car during peak hour too.

Brisbane made pretty big changes to the zoning for public transport a little while back so my fare cost is only increasing by $1.10 I think per trip.

Kogan mobile also increased their small plan data from 3 to 7gb. Not sure if I should change off the medium plan as I may use more data with the longer commute.

Yeah see trying to use public transport here would probably be slower than walking, but we're a small city and I don't know anyone that uses it

I've set myself up here so that the bus is easily the most convenient option for getting to work. Quicker, cheaper, and way less hassle than driving.

Busses aren't an option here. I start work at 8.30am. If I wanted to get the bus to work, the earliest bus to stop on our route comes by at 8.39am. It would then take me on a 31 minute scenic route of the town before dumping me across from the post office at 9.10am. I'd then have a 30 minute wait before boarding a second bus which would then take an take me directly out to the hospital to arrive at 9.48am. It would then take me 5-ish minutes to walk from the front of the hospital, across the grounds to where I work... so I'd get to work around 10am, 90 minutes late after a 80 minute commute.... or, you know, I could get in my car and drive 7kms, park for free and be at work in under 15 minutes.

When I used to live in regional towns (not calling them cities no matter what they think of themselves), I never used to use public transport to get around. It was either a bike or walking. I think good public transport infrastructure is vital to cities, but I doubt that most towns have a dense enough population to make it viable for the vast majority of people.

It's worth mentioning that the 30 minute trip around town to the post office, takes a long time but you only end up 1.9km away from where you started

Officially moved out of my townhouse now and well timed to avoid the Southern Phone outtage fiasco atm.

However, the Exetel NBN connection at the new place has been set to Pending following confirmation 10 days ago that it was all hunky dory.

I'm staying at the girlfriend's rental for another week so we still have internet with TPG to get us by but I would like the NBN working before we move into the new place next weekend.

Damn ISPs!

yeah my landline/voip went psycho for two weeks, I could answer the phone and hear them talking but they couldn't hear me and I couldn't dial out. I never use it so I didn't bother wasting an hour of my life on tech support and then two days ago it was completely dead (noticed that because no tele-marketers had call for a couple of days) restarted the router and it's working again and now I can chat with my friends from Mumbai lol

Was ready to drop money on a new PC at the start of last month but then AMD announces the new Ryzen stuff. Now nVidia has announced a video card refresh.

I got used to the something new is just around the corner but normally it was 6 months off. So now I'm waiting for 2080 supers to be released here and hoping that AMD stock lasts long enough for me to get that too.

And the newest thing often comes with an extra cost that the product won't live up to.

Though if it were me, I'd wait tbh. I'm a sucker like that.

The new AMD GPU's are looking very tempting for me... not that concerned with the "supers"
Thinking about a CPU upgrade, but I haven't noticed my current Ryzen 1600X struggling with anything, so not seeing a reason just yet.

I got a Ryzen 1600 20 months ago, and I'm expecting it to be good enough for the next 5 years. Runs amazingly well right now.

I don't understand how the "super" nvidia cards are super, they're not as good as the Ti versions? :(

I bought my 1080Ti just over two years ago and other than not having raytracing I've not seen any reason to update. It's not struggling on anything I've thrown at it, but maybe I'm just not playing the right things anymore. :D

My only current conundrum is do I wait for the non-blower style coolers that should be out soon, or just do my tax return and buy a blower style now...

The super cards are a slight improvement over their predecessors at the same price point. Still a lot cheaper than the Ti cards.

Probably going to get a 3700x (cheaper than the 9700kf I was eyeing off) and a 2080 super. Not in a huge rush but would like it soonish. Have to look at reviews of the new x570 motherboards, particularly sound with the extra tiny fan they all seem to have.

We've got a whole pile of bottles and cans to go to Return & Earn but it seems more people have found out about the new/second location because everytime we go there lately there's been a line up. Just found a service from a nearby town where you can either bag up your stuff or fill a wheelie bin, and they'll come and collect it for free and pay you the $10c per container. I don't know how the hell they make money doing that, but that's not my problem. Have popped in an enquiry to see if they'll do collections when someone isn't home (ie: leave a wheelie bin full on the porch) or if you need to be home for the pickup. If they can do collection without someone needing to be home, I'm sold.
