Yeah, there are times that my internet plays up and 720p doesn't stream consistently because Youtube wont let me pause and buffer anymore. Thankfully it's better than that 90% of the time tho.

reading between the lines what I think he was thinking was "we know that gamers are responsible for murdering American school kids so why not blame them for our nbn fail" oh did I say that out loud, my bad

Re: The NBN thread
It reeks of political opportunism, finding a convenient scapegoat that's superficially plausible and demographically segregated. No-one is going to come out and say "y'all watch too much Netflix" because that's seem as legitimate use of the internet while gaming is (perceived) as a waste of time. Streaming media would be a failure one their account to provide a reliable service, while blaming gamers allows the blame to be on a few bad eggs running for everyone with their frivolous entertainment pursuits.
The clarification was a nice use of weasel words, taking away from the patently false claim that it's gaming, but leaving open the blame on people who olay games as being bandwidth hogs in other respects.

Re: The NBN thread
I said it before and I'll say it again, blaming gamers is the Australian BS pollie's equivalent of blaming Mexicans for all the problems in the US. Those bloody gamers are taking all our bandwidth. NBN Fearmongering.
As per Makena's post...
Shit, they found out we were lying... who to blame next? Well movie streaming is the real culprit but we can't blame Stan and piss off old mate Rupert... let's throw Netflix under the bus, they don't give us money.

Currently using my mobile as a wifi hotspot (and getting some value out of my 13Gb per month that I don't come close to using).
Exetel NBN still not working. We think it's a NBN hardware fault. Got a WP thread going here:

Not that I can tell. My $60/mth hasn't been direct debited.
NBN Co tech came on Monday and found that the wrong address had been connected.
They supposedly fixed it up but there's still no internet. At this rate, I have no idea when I will be connected. Might have to get a wireless 4G solution in the interim.

NBN Co still can't find my address.
I've ordered a wireless broadband service to get me by.

My wireless broadband modem is on the way. Hopefully it all gets delivered and will work as planned.

Wireless broadband modem came in the mail today... though I had to leave work early as there was no one at home and the package was dropped off at the post office where my PO Box is. I'm just glad I have internet on my desktop again.

How many hours you gonna spend on the phone doing that? Not worth the time IMO>

Definitely worth some time otherwise they will keep doing it. I would say give it a couple of hours worth, then send it through the TIO.

Re: The NBN thread
Depends on what you may be getting back, if your internet has been down for several weeks, hell yeah. If it was down for 5 or 6 hours? My hourly rate to do shit would be more expensive than what I'd be getting back.

Re: The NBN thread
I had speaker phone on and went off to do some house chores, take a dump, update my finances, reply to a few emails, and did the weekly challenge rift in Diablo 3 on my two accounts too before I got through to the tech support team. So overall, it wasn't a big inconvenience because I wasn't waiting for 1hr 45min with the phone against my ear.
I got back a month's internet cost which is around $60 (to the ISPs credit, they refunded me the previous month of nil service automatically so it was just the July costs I needed to chase up). Whether that's worth it is subjective but since I had to pay for a wireless broadband service too to get me through the last 2-3 weeks of no NBN, getting the $60 back was worth it to me.

Re: The NBN thread
Signed up my folks to NBN. Only Westnet's $40 seniors plan but it's the same quota and price as what the folks are on currently with Spintel.
With NBN prices looking to increase rather than decrease, I figured it best to lock them into the cheaper price asap.
They're scheduled for 9 Oct for their NBN box installation. They'll be connected via HFC so we'll see how their speeds are in the evening. Not sure what type of modem Westnet will be providing either... hopefully a reliable one.

The NBN is amazing. Fixed wireless is new technology.
Everything is fine!
Double rainbows, ponies, unicorns and faeries.

Communications minister and NBN are ignoring my emails.
Angus Taylor also ignores my emails.
Was like Dialup speeds earlier.
Phone internet is 40mbps+ symmetrical.
