First build since 2013.. help!

So gents, I'm in the market for a new PC - I only need the tower and everything that comes in it, and Mrs Disco's requirement is it be a pretty RGB case - should be easy enough.

I don't really want to spend a lot as I don't use the PC as much as I used to, but still want to keep up with games and the new MW has been the first game that gave it a stutter (although, honestly, it could just be MW ).

Anyway, a friend suggested the below which comes in at $1,700 or so. Thoughts?

I'd say $1,700 is a FIRM budget at this point, no price creep guys!

I wouldn't bother with the liquid cooler for the CPU, plus that one has been discontinued apparently. There's a bunch of mid-range air coolers with pretty lights now.
Also would be looking at the new AMD CPUs. A bit more performance generally for less cost - Intel has fallen behind.

Yeah I would look the AMD route, and agree on the water cooler. I have that radiator and won't get a water cooler again. Cleaning it is an absolute pain, and it gets clogged with dust very quickly.

Something like below, it should be around the same cost I think.

As for GPU, I wouldn't go the 1660, I don't think they perform well enough for newer games.
I am assuming you are playing at standard Full HD res though? (1080p) Do you know what the monitor is that you are plugging this into? As this will help with recommendations on what GPU you will need to power it nicely.

I'll check out the AMD, and absolutely change of the Samsung swap - I've been running an 128GB SSD as my main for years and an old 2TB hard drive for my downloads folder until it kicked the bucket and it worked well.

Any suggestions for an all in one liquid cpu cooler?

Cheers! I've updated the CPU to a AMD Ryzen 5 2600 with Wraith Stealth and a Samsung 1TB main SSD, and a mate has a spare 1TB hard drive that I can use for data, looking like a winner

Now that my old PC has been bricked, I'm thinking of doing a copy and paste of Disco's rig (just with an AMD RX570 and 4Tb WD slave HDD that are both brand new which I'm hoping the PC shop will put in the new rig as they only installed it withing the past two weeks).

Anything you guys would change from the last set of specs?

I'm not looking at liquid cooling btw.

Unless you need the higher throughput for some reason I would buy a higher capacity SATA SSD.

Not getting a new rig now... they couldn't do the new build with the two already purchased parts... reasoning is a logistics one in that all new builds come from the Milton store and controlled by them.

However, the guy said that because they've already charged me for the trouble shooting labour, they can replace the core components (i.e. CPU, mobo with new cables and RAM) and keep the rest which shouldn't be causing the I/O errors I'm getting. Decided to also throw in a 4 port USB3.0 hub since I always seem to be running short.

This will save me on the case, PSU, optical drive, etc and means I can reuse the new video card, new 4Tb HDD with 3yrs warranty on it and the 1yr old 250Gb SSD with another 4yrs warranty on it. They'll also install Win10 for me to make sure that I have a current OS.

All up, another $521. I won't have the 3yr warranty that wanted with a new rig but if it all lasts that long without issues then the $900-ish I've spent for this round of upgrades would be worth it.
